Carissa macrocarpa 'Green Carpet'

is a low-growing, spreading cultivar of Natal plum, a tough evergreen shrub native to coastal South Africa. It typically reaches only 1–2 feet tall while spreading 4–6 feet wide, making it an excellent ground cover for warm climates (USDA zones 9–11).

The foliage is dense and glossy, with small, deep green oval leaves that create a lush, carpet-like appearance year-round. Like the species, it bears sharp spines along its stems, which makes it useful as a deterrent planting along borders or under windows. Small, fragrant white star-shaped flowers appear periodically, followed occasionally by small red fruits that are edible, though fruit production on this dwarf form is sparse.

'Green Carpet' is drought-tolerant once established, has resistance to salt spray and coastal conditions, and can thrive in full sun to partial shade. is a compact, mounding cultivar of Natal plum loved for its tidy, bunched appearance and versatility in warm-climate landscapes (USDA zones 9–11). It typically grows 2–3 feet tall and wide, forming a dense, rounded shape that requires little pruning to maintain its neat form.

The foliage is rich, dark green and glossy, with small oval leaves densely arranged along the stems. Notably, 'Boxwood Beauty' is nearly thornless compared to the species and many other cultivars, making it a more practical choice for high-traffic areas, entryways, and plantings near walkways or play spaces. Small, fragrant white star-shaped flowers may appear sporadically, though like other dwarf forms, it is not a heavy bloomer or fruiter.
